Josh Ramsay — insert the sounds of a million teenage girls swooning here — is the lead singer in the band Marianas Trench, whose show I caught last Thursday.
T’was quite the spectacle, and good fun to shoot.

Yup. After the opening video (their tour is called Ever After, and has a hero/villain fantasy concept theme to it), a big jack-in-the-box appears behind the drumkit, the lid pops open, and Josh flies out on wires.
He spends the first half of the song floating through the air and singing before landing on stage, grabbing his guitar, and kicking into the rest of the song.
“And how, Bud, did he get his hands on a guitar?” I hear you not asking.
Well, keen-eyed reader, let me tell you.
While Josh was floating through the air, a roadie came into the security pit with us and sat down on the security barrier to wait for Josh’s landing. His job was to hand up the guitar stored between the speakers when Josh’s hand went out.
Remember the hero/villain fantasy concept theme I mentioned earlier? Well, I guess, as part of their paycheque, any roadies and techs who appear in the public eye during the show are mandated to wear black and gold masquerade masks.
With a foot-long curved nose on the end of it.

I snuck a glance as this guy sat waiting to hand up the guitar, and was greeted with a booming “DON’T LAUGH!”
Deadpan, I raised my hands in surrender, turned away, and tried not to rip a stomach muscle in an effort to contain my giggles.
I surely risked life and limb snapping this shot, which is why I did it quickly. Not a technical masterpiece, but worth it for the story.
