the view from City Hall

Thanks to friend Shayne for the heads up on free tours of the City Hall clock tower last week on Victoria’s 150th birthday.

This is a seven-shot panorama of the view from a tiny door above the mechanism room. To the left is the actual bell which chimes every half hour (during daytime hours only, so as not to cause sleeplessness).

Down the stairs from the door is the mechanism which runs the clock; a collection of steampunk-y cogs and pulleys.

Up the stairs from the door, where we weren’t allowed to do during our two-part tour (the first showing a fully disused second floor), would be the room with the four faces of the clock.

T’was a very cool opportunity, and I’m really glad I went!
