views of Victoria

Lovely wife Naomi recently had a milestone birthday, so grand adventures were had.

Look! It’s Ogden Point!

First, a seaplane tour of Victoria! Out of the harbour we flew, and we wrapped around the island, all the way up to Brentwood.

Look! It’s Esquimalt Lagoon!

From Brentwood, we cut across, did a figure-8 loop around Butchart Gardens, and headed back for town overland.

Look! Saxe Point!

While there was a bit of turbulence during our figure-8, the rest of the flight was as smooth and exciting as it could be, as we looked down all the little ants and saw our houses from here.

After seaplaning and a relaxing afternoon, we had an amazing prime rib dinner at the best table in the house at Vista 18 (thanks to some it’s-who-you-know help from Julie + Jon), complete with a view kinda like this.

“Kinda” because the exact photo above took about ten minutes of navigating tables across three rooms.

Well, the whole photo; this is just a small portion of the complete megawhoa panorama. Click to see the entire skyline and, when you get to the far right, look at the corner window of Vista 18. THAT’S WHERE WE SAT!

We left the hotel and ended up in the Inner Harbour, where we caught the MV Coho and a Harbour Ferry about to have a race.

Why the Inner Harbour? That’s where we ended the weekend with a nice tourist-in-our-own-hometown stay at the Delta Victoria Ocean Pointe Resort.

We love our kidlet and we love our kats, but it was really nice for it to be just the two of us for a day.

That night, ‘CAUSE I COULD, I ventured out with my tripod for some long exposure fun with the soon-to-be-history Johnson Street Bridge.

First, from high above, on the 8th floor of the Delta . . .

. . . then, from below, near the water.

And finally, on street level, where I had a nice chat with some Queensland Aussies about long exposure photography and Victoria’s temperate climate.

Happy birthday, Nome!
